Frequently asked questions

What can I use a plaster dado rail for?

As a dado rail, and more. The same sections can edge or panel a ceiling, sit higher on the wall as a picture rail, or work as a small cornice. The flat section D19 is designed for use on cornices or walls. See the full dado and picture rail range.

How long is each length?

Most of our dado rail listings give a length of 1.5m (5ft). A few are different, for example D3A is 1.9m (6ft 3in) and D5 is 1.83m (6ft). Each listing gives the width and depth in mm. If a listing doesn't state the length, give us a call.

Is there a minimum order?

Yes. Dado rails have a minimum order of 8 pieces of each design. Some listings note a handling supplement on smaller orders, so call us if you need fewer.

What adhesive do I use to fix plaster dado rail?

Our fixing and filling adhesives include Herculite Fibrefix, made for fixing fibre reinforced plasterwork, and Gyproc Coving Adhesive. Both can also be used to fill joints. If you're not sure which suits your wall, call us on 01204 693900.

Can I paint plaster dado rail?

Yes. Make sure the plaster is fully dry and clean, seal it with a primer or a mist coat (watered-down paint), then finish with a water-based paint. A fine brush helps on detailed patterns.

Can you match an existing dado or picture rail?

Often, yes. We reproduce existing plasterwork, not just cornice. Trace the profile the same way as for cornice (our tracing guide shows how) and call us on 01204 693900. See also our plaster matching service.
